Employment in Melanesia

Melanesia is an area in the South Pacific that consists of the following Islands; Fiji, Indonesia, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.  Of all the Islands in Melanesia, the most likely ones to find employment for U.S. citizens and those from English speaking countries are in Fiji and the Solomon Islands;  If you want to work abroad in the South Pacific, concentrate your search in our joblist with these two countries.

In Fiji, sample jobs are found in spas, hotels (including bartenders and cooks), general construction, and SCUBA diving.  The Republic of Fiji is comprised of 366 Islands but the main two (with 87% of the population) are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.  Although there have been some recent problems with general political and civil unrest, Fiji should be a safe place to work again by mid to late 2009.

In the Solomon Islands, the main jobs are the same as in Fiji; they are centered around the tourism industry.   The nation is comprised of over 1,000 Islands.   The main Island, where the capital is located, is Guadalcanal. With a size of 2,510 square miles, there is plenty of room to roam in your off-hours.

Our joblist also includes volunteer programs and Internships in this area.  Remember, working overseas can build your International career.
